Movie Crime Log: Homefront, Oldboy, Getaway

Rejoice, film fans, there’s a new Jason Statham movie out today!

Homefront apparently started life as a Rambo script that Stallone dug out of his drawer and rewrote for Expendables chum Statham, who stars as a DEA agent who retires to a small town with his daughter.

Statham just wants a quiet life, that’s all he wants, he’s minding his own business, but then he gets into some kind of feud with local drug-trafficker James Franco over a playground incident. And when Franco goes and kidnaps his daughter he, like, pushes all Statham’s buttons.

I think you know what that means. I certainly do—it means action.

Oldboy is Spike Lee’s remake of Park Chan-wook’s cult South Korean movie. It stars Josh Brolin and Sharlto Copley and Samuel L. Jackson. Lee and Brolin apparently took exception to the final running-time on the movie imposed on it by the studio.

Oldboy is out today, as well, by the way. I’m not just mentioning it for the fun of it. Like Homefront, It opens wide, which I guess means you you can see it just about anywhere.

In the US, Getaway was released to some pretty awful reviews and terrible box-office business. It stars Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez and Jon Voight, and is about a chap who comes home to discover his wife has been kidnapped. If he wants her back, says a fellow on the phone, he’s got to rob banks and steal cars and generally get involved in lots of violent, life-threatening mayhem. In that situation, to be honest, I’d probably decide that a wife was surplus to my needs, or I’d go out and get me another one, but, hey ho, each to their own.

So there you go, three single-word movies you can go and see so you don’t have to sit at home freezing this weekend.
