Movie Crime Log: Cold In July
If ice cold noir keeps you cool, then there’s only one film you’ll want to see on the big screen this week. In the 80s-infused Cold In July, Michael J. Hall throws off his oddball Dexter persona to play an ordinary Joe with a tremendous mullet who panics and shoots dead a burglar in his house.
The robber’s old man, played by the menacing Sam Shepard, starts asking awkward questions of Hall and a private detective, played by Don Johnson becomes involved. Set at the fag end of the 1980s, and with a terrific synth score, it’s terse, tense and features bad hair. What more could you want?
